All children took part in a house group swap in the morning of 21st December 2017. They made their Christingle oranges and learnt about the meaning of the different parts of the Christingle. The Christingle service followed in the afternoon and we welcomed a large number of parents and carers to watch. The service was led by Reverend Tony Richards from St Blasius Church.
Christmas dinner was well attended again this year. Over two sittings on 19th December 2017 staff served parents, carers and children's dinners.
Our whole school nativity took place on 13th December 2017 at Shanklin Theatre. The children all performed brilliantly and had a fantastic time up on the big stage.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children visited the Christmas Tree festival held at the Methodist Church in Shanklin on 7th December 2017. The festival was opened by the Major and the children sang Christmas songs before enjoying a snack and looking around the festival.
Harvest Festival took place on 6th October 2017 at the United Reformed Church in Shanklin.
Year 6 UKSA trip
On Monday 25th September Year 6 visited UKSA for a morning of sailing. They had the chance to put on a wetsuit, dive into the sea and have a go at sailing.
Mr Wood received a letter from a gentleman called Derek Kent. Derek is 92 and used to be a pupil at St Blasius Academy (Shanklin C of E at the time). He sent Mr Wood a photo of his class back in 1936 and wondered if our academy could help him contact any of his old classmates from the photo. We invited Derek in and he took a guided tour of our school on Wednesday 27th September. He found out his old classroom is now our reception classroom! In our efforts to help Derek, we contacted IW Radio who came into school to interview him whilst he thumbed through the old Headmaster Log Books from when he was a child. IW Radio are now doing a big piece on Derek’s story, trying to help him locate some of his childhood friends. Our academy newspaper team got to witness this interview, and even got the chance to ask Derek some questions of their own!
Year 1 and 2 Fire station trip
On 19th September Years 1 and 2 walked to Shanklin Fire Station. They were welcomed by the staff and Police Officer who arranged to show us around the station vehicles and equipment. Children had the opportunity to squirt the hose, look in the fire engine and police van, try on and learn about the kit a firefighter has to wear and pretend to be arrested. It was great to help us with our learning for our new topic 'A Day in the Life: People Who Help Us'.
