Year 2 have been very busy recently!

In English, they independently wrote their own ‘journey tales’. The children prepared for this by creating their own expanded noun phrases and similes in order to describe the setting of the story. They have now moved on to persuasive writing. The final task in this learning journey will be to write a persuasive leaflet advertising ‘The Hibernation Hotel.’


In maths, after successfully finishing their learning around place value, they have moved on to working on addition and subtraction; putting their place value skills to use.


In R.E., the children have been focused on their unit based around the concept of ‘symbols’ and Harvest and the Harvest loaf. The children have come up with their own ideas of what might be a suitable alternative symbol of Harvest. In P.E., the class have been working on the fundamental skills of running, jumping, skipping and hopping. They have also started to learn how to skip with a skipping rope. We had some very good attempts. They will use these skills as they move on to taking part in striking and fielding games in the coming weeks.


In computing, Year 2 have been refining their knowledge of online safely.


In history, they are enjoying learning about King James I, Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.


Whilst in science, the children are coming to the end of their unit on Living Habitats by learning about the habitats of a variety of creatures, including mini-beasts and also looking at food chains.


Finally, in music the children learnt to sing the song Tony Chestnut with actions and have moved on to learning to play the tune on the glockenspiel.

Ellen MacArthur Class have had a fantastic start to the year! From tackling column addition and problem-solving in maths, to learning rugby skills and welcoming new friends, Year 4 are working hard, supporting each other, and enjoying their learning journey together.

Year 5 have kicked off the year with creativity, teamwork and community spirit. From clay ‘failed’ pets inspired by Barnabus, to Tag Rugby practice, and an exciting art project with Shanklin Town Council, it’s been a brilliant start!

Year 6 have hit the ground running with exciting new topics, fun quizzes using Blooket, and even an unexpected fire alarm mid-test! From World War Two history to science circuits, the class have already shown determination, creativity and enthusiasm.

Year 6 have had a jam-packed few weeks, from a Parisian adventure and chocolate making in Belgium to helping Reception with Sports Day and preparing for secondary school. With more trips ahead, they’re making every moment of their final term count.
