Dragons, Rugby and Easter Fun – A Brilliant End to Term for Year 3!

Mrs Bushell • March 27, 2026

A fun-filled final week of reading, sport, science and Easter celebrations for our fantastic Year 3 class.

TL;DR:

  • Finished The Boy Who Grew Dragons and wrote book reviews.
  • Continued mastering column subtraction with regrouping.
  • Enjoyed their final rugby session with excellent teamwork.
  • Investigated whether seeds can grow without soil.
  • Celebrated the end of term with an Easter bonnet parade and egg hunt.

What a busy and brilliant week we’ve had in Tim Peake Class!

Today we finished reading The Boy Who Grew Dragons. The children have absolutely loved the story, and to complete our work we wrote thoughtful book reviews, sharing our favourite moments, characters and surprises.

We also went to the Library today and everyone chose a book to enjoy over the Easter holidays, as well as taking home their own reading books. We hope these will inspire lots of reading during the break!

In maths we continued to develop our subtraction skills using the column method with regrouping. The children have been working extremely hard to set out their calculations clearly and apply regrouping accurately. They will be able to tell you what the ‘minuend’, ‘subtrahend’ and ‘difference’ is and a growing in confidence each day.

We enjoyed our final rugby session yesterday. The class have showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and enthusiasm over this unit. We even spotted a few budding future England players out on the field!

Our PSHE lessons focused on understanding different emotions, especially how we can cope with grief and loss. The children showed great maturity and compassion during discussions. We created memory boxes, thinking carefully about the special objects or memories people might use to bring comfort during difficult times.

In Geography, we used ipads to explore the human and physical features of some European countries. The children enjoyed comparing landscapes, cities, traditions and natural features across the continent.

We completed our Science investigation into whether seeds can sprout without soil. The results were exciting! Children will now be taking their seedlings home to plant and (hopefully!) continue watching them grow over the holidays.

During RE, we discussed how Jesus, Mary and Christians today might have felt during the events of Holy Week. Year 3 shared some truly thoughtful and insightful ideas, showing empathy and sensitivity as they explored these important moments.

We finished our week with an exciting Bonnet Parade and Easter Egg Hunt, full of smiles, excitement and teamwork. It was a wonderful way to end the term.

Year 3 would like to wish all our amazing families a very happy and restful Easter and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the Summer term!
