A Busy and Brilliant Start to the Term!
What an exciting and action packed start to the term it has been for Year 5! The children have thrown themselves into every activity with enthusiasm, curiosity and fantastic teamwork, making it a wonderful few weeks of learning and celebration.
We began the term with a fascinating Forensic and Anthropology Workshop delivered by Dinosaur Isle. The children explored real scientific techniques, including examining bones, studying fossils and learning how experts use clues to uncover information about the past. It was an incredible hands on experience, and the class were fully engaged as they investigated like true scientists. Their questions, teamwork and problem solving were outstanding, and we were so proud of the mature way they approached the activities.
To mark Chinese New Year, the children created their very own Chinese hand drums. This linked beautifully with our work in English on writing clear, detailed instructions. The classroom was full of colour, creativity and concentration as pupils designed, assembled and decorated their drums. We were delighted to welcome parents into school to join the celebrations—there was a fantastic atmosphere as pupils shared their learning and proudly demonstrated their creations.
Next came one of the most exciting days of the year: World Book Day! Year 5 began the day by reading stories with children in Reception, showing kindness, confidence and brilliant expression. Later, we joined the whole school for a lively book character parade, with costumes ranging from magical wizards to adventurous heroes. In the afternoon, pupils and many parents came together for our special “book nic”—a cosy picnic style reading session that filled the hall with smiles, stories and wonderful conversations about favourite books. We rounded off the day with a friendly book quiz, where teamwork and book knowledge shone brightly.
As we look ahead, the class are already excited for our upcoming Mother’s Day celebration. The children are preparing something thoughtful and meaningful to show their appreciation, and we cannot wait to share this special moment with families very soon.
It has been a fantastic start to the term, full of creativity, curiosity and community spirit. Well done, Year 5—you should be incredibly proud of everything you have achieved so far!
