Autumn Adventures, Timeless Toys and Persuasive Pitches in Year 1!
A wonderful few weeks of seasonal discoveries, fascinating toy history and creative advertising for our enthusiastic Year 1 class.
TL;DR:
- Earned a special games reward after nine days of excellent punctuality.
- Enjoyed Forest School adventures, creating habitats and making hot chocolate using a Kelly Kettle.
- Developed swimming skills and confidence at The Heights Leisure Centre.
- Investigated animal diets in Science and began exploring Roman history ahead of a Roman Villa visit.
- Practised descriptive and persuasive writing while developing place value and mathematical reasoning skills.

Year 1 have been incredibly busy with their learning over the past few weeks!
As part of our science learning, we have been exploring the four seasons and thinking about how the world around us changes throughout the year. On Thursday, we enjoyed an exciting season walk where we observed the signs of autumn around our school and local area. The children were fantastic at spotting seasonal changes and discussing what they could see, hear and feel.
We have also been learning about toys from the past and comparing them with the toys we enjoy today. This week, the children took part in a wonderful toy workshop, where they had the opportunity to explore a variety of toys and discover how play has changed over time. We all had great fun and learned lots of fascinating facts!
In English, we have been focusing on persuasive adverts. The children have loved analysing different adverts and identifying the features that make them effective. They have been using exciting vocabulary, questions and exclamation sentences to persuade others, and have enjoyed creating their own imaginative advertisements.
Well done, Year 1, for all your hard work and enthusiasm! We are looking forward to sharing more of our learning with you soon. 🌟
