Big Shoes, Bright Futures and Brilliant Leaders in Year 6!

Mrs Potts • September 10, 2026

A confident start to Year 6 as pupils embrace leadership roles, new challenges and exciting learning opportunities ahead.

TL;DR:

  • Settled into Year 6 with maturity, enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
  • Took on leadership roles including House Captains, Eco Crew, Sports Crew and Prayer Leaders.
  • Welcomed new School Council Representatives and Travel Ambassadors.
  • Began an exciting curriculum featuring Skellig, World War II, circuits and online safety.
  • Look forward to water safety at UKSA and CPR training at Shanklin Fire Station.

Year 6 have returned to school with an amazing attitude to learning.

From the very first day, the children have shown enthusiasm, determination and a real commitment to making this their best year yet. They have settled quickly into new routines, approached their learning with confidence and worked hard to set a positive example for the rest of the school.

We are incredibly proud of the maturity and responsibility that so many pupils have already demonstrated. Several children have successfully applied for and taken on important leadership roles across the school. Congratulations to our new House Captains ( Anna, Evie, Albie and Poppy ) and Vice Captains ( James, Emilia ), who will help to inspire and support their teams throughout the year.

Our newly appointed Eco Crew (Uma and Monty) members have already begun thinking about ways to make our school even more environmentally friendly, while our Sports Crew (Reggie, Mason, Micheal ) are looking forward to promoting active lifestyles and helping to organise sporting events and activities.

We are also delighted to see pupils taking on the role of Prayer Leaders (Vixxen and Oliver), helping to support collective worship and encouraging opportunities for reflection within our school community. In addition, many children have volunteered to help with the practical aspects of school life, including setting up the hall for assemblies and ensuring that the music is ready each morning. These may seem like small jobs, but they make a huge difference to the smooth running of the school and demonstrate excellent teamwork and reliability.

We also have new School Council Representatives who represent our class pupil voice (Arthur and Harper) and new travel ambassadors (Lacey and Thomas) who will promote travelling to school in a healthy and most importantly safe way

It has been wonderful to see so many Year 6 pupils stepping up as role models and embracing the responsibilities that come with being the oldest children in the school. We are excited to see what the year ahead will bring and look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the coming months.
