Romans, Swimming Success and Hot Chocolate Adventures in Year 3!
An action-packed start to Year 3 filled with outdoor adventures, swimming achievements, Roman discoveries and plenty of teamwork.
TL;DR:
- Earned a special games reward after nine days of excellent punctuality.
- Enjoyed Forest School adventures, creating habitats and making hot chocolate using a Kelly Kettle.
- Developed swimming skills and confidence at The Heights Leisure Centre.
- Investigated animal diets in Science and began exploring Roman history ahead of a Roman Villa visit.
- Practised descriptive and persuasive writing while developing place value and mathematical reasoning skills.
It has been a fantastic start to the term in Tim Peake Class, and we have already packed so much into our first few weeks!
We have had a brilliant achievement with all of our children arriving at school on time for nine days! This means we have now collected all the letters we need to spell ST BLASIUS. The children voted on their reward and decided that bringing in games from home to play together would be the perfect treat. We are all very excited for some well-earned fun and games!
One of the highlights of Year 3 this term has been our weekly Forest School and swimming sessions at The Heights Leisure Centre. Forest School has given us lots of opportunities to learn outdoors, work together and develop new skills. We have been creating habitats, practising teamwork and exploring the world around us. One particularly exciting moment was getting to use the Kelly Kettle to make hot chocolate – a very welcome treat after all our outdoor learning!
We have also been making great progress with our swimming. Every week, the children have been showing our school value of courage, challenging themselves to try new things and push themselves a little further. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they develop their swimming skills.
In Science, we have been exploring animals, including humans. We have been learning about different types of animals and have discovered the differences between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. There have been lots of interesting discussions as we have thought about what different animals eat and why.
Our History lessons have been particularly exciting as we have started learning all about the Romans. The children have shown huge enthusiasm for this topic and are full of questions about Roman life. We are especially looking forward to taking our learning further next week when we visit the Roman Villa. We can't wait to see what we can discover!
In English, we have finished our setting descriptions, using lots of carefully chosen vocabulary to bring our imagined worlds to life. Now we are moving on to persuasion – so watch out! We are going to become experts at persuading you to do things!
Finally, in Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value, with a particular focus on applying our knowledge to problem-solving and reasoning. We are working hard to explain our thinking and use our mathematical skills in different situations, helping to bring our maths to life.
It has certainly been a busy start to the term, and we are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, courage and teamwork shown by everyone in Tim Peake Class. We can't wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
