It has been a slightly quieter week in Year 3 following our two exciting school trips before half term with St. Francis! We are incredibly proud of how the children represented our school on both visits — they received numerous compliments for their excellent behaviour, enthusiasm and genuine interest in their learning. Well done, Year 3!

We have begun our new Destination Reader text, ‘Lizzie Dripping’ by Helen Cresswell. The children enjoyed exploring the front cover and reading the blurb, using these clues to make thoughtful predictions about what might happen in the story. It has been wonderful to hear them sharing ideas and justifying their thinking.

We enjoyed learning about sea safety with the rest of the school when Nick Guest from the RNLI taught us the importance of learning skills to stay safe in the water that surrounds our Island.

In Maths, we have started learning about parallel and perpendicular sides in polygons. The children have been using rulers carefully and sensibly to draw their own polygons on isometric paper, showing great focus and improving their precision skills.

In RE, we have begun learning about Hinduism, with a focus on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. This week, the children reflected on the idea of protection—thinking about who and what keeps them safe, leading to some thoughtful and meaningful conversations.

Our new Science topic is all about Light and Shadow. This week, we explored different light sources and had some fantastic discussions. One of the most unusual examples suggested was a firefly, which sparked lots of curiosity and excitement!

In PE, we had our first rugby session of the term. The children are looking forward to building on the skills they developed earlier in the year, showing teamwork, control and determination.

Well done to all the children for a positive and focused week back—we are excited for the learning ahead in our last term in Year 3.
