Phonics Stars, Animal Detectives and Disco Dancing in Year 1!
A fantastic week of phonics success, measuring, creative writing, animal discoveries and some well-earned disco fun!
TL;DR:
- Achieved fantastic results in the Phonics Screening Check.
- Developed practical measuring skills using rulers in Maths.
- Created speech bubbles using expressive speech verbs and adverbs.
- Investigated carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, habitats and food chains.
- Celebrated a brilliant term so far with dancing and fun at the school disco.
One of the highlights of the term has undoubtedly been the children's fantastic success in their Phonics Screening Check. We are incredibly proud of every single child for the effort, determination, and positive attitude they showed throughout the process. The children truly blew us away with how well they did! They approached the screening with confidence and resilience, demonstrating the fantastic progress they have made in their phonics learning throughout the year.
In Maths, we have thoroughly enjoyed our unit on measurement. The children have been developing their understanding of length and height through a range of practical and engaging activities. They have learned how to use rulers accurately, carefully measuring objects and recording their findings. We have also explored how to add and subtract lengths, applying our mathematical skills to solve a variety of problems.
Our English lessons have been full of creativity as we have been learning all about speech. The children have enjoyed creating their own speech bubbles and using powerful speech verbs and adverbs to make their writing more engaging. Their creativity and growing confidence have resulted in some fantastic pieces of writing.
In Science, we have continued our exciting unit on animals. Building on our previous learning, we have been exploring carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores in greater detail. The children have enjoyed investigating different animals and classifying them according to what they eat. They have learned about food chains, habitats, and how animals' diets help them survive in their environments.
This week also brought our fantastic school disco! The children had an absolutely amazing time enjoying an evening filled with dancing, laughter, music, and fun.
As always, we would like to thank all of our children for their hard work, positivity, and enthusiasm. They continue to impress us every day with their willingness to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another. We are so proud of everything they have achieved so far this term and look forward to all the exciting learning and experiences still to come.
