A Busy and Brilliant Term in Year 5!

We have already had an incredibly busy and exciting term in Year 5, packed full of creativity, learning and unforgettable experiences!

One of our highlights has been creating beautiful haikus and artwork to contribute to the Naturezones Poetry Trail. The children worked hard to choose precise words inspired by nature and then paired their poems with thoughtful artwork. It has been wonderful to see their work proudly displayed and shared with the wider community.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy a fantastic trip to the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, where we watched Matilda the Musical. The pupils were mesmerised by the performers, the music and the staging. This visit sparked lots of discussion back in class about character, emotion and storytelling, and has inspired some brilliant writing.

Our Science learning came to life during our visit to the Wight Aviation Museum, where we took part in an exciting Materials and Forces workshop. The children explored how forces work in real-life situations and had great fun making and launching straw rockets. One of the most exciting experiments involved creating a compositional material by mixing bicarbonate of soda and lemon juice, then using the pressure created to launch rockets at a target. The pupils loved testing how much pressure was needed and predicting what would happen next. 

It has been a term full of curiosity, teamwork and enthusiasm. We are so proud of how Year 5 have thrown themselves into every opportunity with such positive attitudes and thoughtful questions. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
